Breakups are painful, and it takes time to get over them. Even if you left the relationship, you might feel like you’re not ready to meet anyone new yet. But the only way to truly heal from the breakup is to get back out there and move on with your life! So here are the 7 best healing destinations to visit after a breakup so that you can help yourself heal as quickly as possible.
Big Sur:
Getting away from it all is usually everyone’s first response when they hear someone has gone through a breakup. Big Sur, located along California’s coast in San Luis Obispo County, is one of America’s most beautiful coastal regions and perfect for hiking, canoeing and camping. It’s also home to some secluded B&Bs for an extra level of comfort and relaxation. The natural beauty of Big Sur will have you feeling like you’re worlds away from your problems. One of them even has a hot tub on its deck! So if you’re looking for romance and relaxation, look no further than Big Sur.
The landscape is absolutely gorgeous, and if you want to get away from it all, Big Sur is probably one of your best bets. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, check out one of the many secluded beaches or hike some of their trails with views that are absolutely spectacular.
The Gulf Coast:
When you’re in pain, sometimes you need to get away from it all—literally. One of my favorite ways to do that is by taking a trip on a hurricane decked ship; I recommend going on The Crystal Serenity, which will sail down New York City and travel through Florida on its way toward Jamaica and Cozumel. You can also visit Naples, where there are miles of unspoiled beaches and a bustling art scene. And if you’re feeling up for it, take a day-trip to Key West (it’s only three hours away), where you can explore nature preserves and go snorkeling with dolphins. All in all, Naples offers some much-needed peace and quiet—plus great food!
Kauai:
Kauai, Hawaii is known as The Garden Island for its diverse ecosystem of natural wonders. The island has hiking trails that follow cascading waterfalls and beautiful riverbanks where visitors can explore underground caves. Kauai is home to one of Hawaii’s most famous resorts: The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa on Poipu Beach. This resort offers several restaurants, a full-service spa and fitness center. Visitors can also enjoy an outdoor pool or relax in their luxurious guest room or suite with views of either Poipu Beach or Mount Waialeale. This resort was ranked #1 in TripAdvisor’s 2017 Traveler’s Choice Awards.
Chicago:
Chances are you’ve always dreamed of seeing Chicago. You just haven’t let yourself consider it until now. Once you finally get there, you’ll fall in love with its people, architecture and parks. And while exploring The Windy City on your own might be hard at first, once you get over that initial hump of going out alone, you’ll feel like a whole new person by its end.
It’s also home to some of America’s best museums and art galleries. So don’t worry about being lonely—you won’t have time for it. Plus, Chicago is known as one of America’s most romantic cities. If you need a reminder that romance is still possible after heartbreak, head here.
Sedona, Arizona
This spiritual hotbed is known for its powerful vortexes, which can help open you up to your greater purpose and calm your mind. Some go there hoping they’ll see a UFO or that aliens will beam them up, but if you have an open mind, you’ll find it an excellent place to focus on what matters most: yourself. Hike through Oak Creek Canyon or just take long walks around town. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can get back in touch with who you are and where you want to go next. You might even meet someone new! But don’t worry—if you don’t, it won’t be long before you start feeling like your old self again.
Kyoto, Japan
Home of 1,000 shrines and temples, Kyoto is a beautiful city known for its cherry blossoms. The city is also ranked one of the best places in Japan for food lovers and can be enjoyed while walking along tree-lined streets with old wooden buildings. In fact, more than half of Kyoto’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. Check out Ryoanji Temple and Fushimi Inari Shrine for your healing stay.
Quebec City
The historic city of Quebec is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a French-speaking, romantic city with cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages (and happens to be one of Canada’s most beautiful cities). And while that may not sound particularly healing, think again: Quebec City is home to over 100 restaurants, nearly all of which are owned by passionate French Canadians who want nothing more than for you to eat their food and enjoy your time there.
Plus, when you finally do feel ready to move on from your ex, you can always visit Le Chateau Frontenac—the hotel that inspired Disney’s Cinderella Castle.
